My 348 always had Shell 75W-90 in the gearbox from new according to its service history. :):)

When I first got the car, it was hard to get 2nd gear. Only could get it when the gearbox oil had warmed up 5 mins down the road. :):)

When I changed the oil to Redline, I got 2nd gear when cold on the first attempt and it has been perfect silky smooth gear changes ever since.:eek:

Redline makes the best gearbox oil for these cars by far! :D:D

Motul makes good oils also, but I wont bother trying their gearbox oil for my 348 now I have Redline in there. :D:D

Once you find a good product, you stick with it!:eek:

I dropped my car off today and was talking about oils... he said as long as it is GL-5 rated then its cool.

    is the superlightweight shockproof GL-5?
it says its good for limited slip and locker diffs. so I think its gonna be cool.

I bought a gallon just like the stuff PAP posted on page 1.
    holler.

Avoid use with pumps, coolers, and filters as unique medium and affinity for metal can cause clogging

    I have a 1995 F355 Spider 6 speed:

    Engine oil- Mobile 1 15w50
    Gearbox-Mobile 1 Synthetic 75w90
    Coolant-Prestone

Question for any 355 guys using the Redline gearbox oil. Which one works best? the 75w90, the 75w90NS or the superlight?

The engine is a dry sump, not the trans.

It does say specifically though that it is not for transmissions with pumps and all V12 transaxles and all V8 transaxles since QV do have a pump. Additionally all V8's, 355 and up have a transaxle cooler so Redline says you should NOT use this oil

Redline says not to use Superlight in a car with a transmission oil pump or a cooler. Your car has both.

I was trying to say this a few years ago to those on this board that you should not use the Shock Proof product in our gearboxes. But since there are bigger mouths on here than mine:D there are still some blindly using this instead of the MTL or 70-90w products.

I never read the website for that product because I never had interest in using it but it does surprise me that in the information age how few do any investigation of any kind when it is so easy.

No reason to use Superlight when Redline's Lightweight Shockproof shifts just as well while providing more protection: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=43&pcid=7

Redline's MTL is the gear oil that comes with their warning:

Ferrari goes further, recommending against GL4 gear oils such as MTL.

Geez, how many times do you have to be told 348 and 355 gearboxes are NOT hypoid type gears.

That warning from Redline applies to their entire line of Shockproof lubricants.

No, Redline has two different warnings; 1 warning about pumps/filters clogging for the Shockproof line and a 2nd warning for the MTL line against hypoid gears.

Ferrari also weighs in against the MTL line of GL4 oils.

ABOUT RED LINE SHOCKPROOF® GEAR OILS

Acting like a liquid grease, these unique lubricants contain a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent, offering a "best of both worlds" balance of low drag and superior protection for gear teeth

Unique lubricant with solid microscopic particles offers low drag/high protection

Relatively low viscosity, yet cushions gear teeth under extreme pressure

Helps to prevent tooth breakage, resists throw-off

Avoid use with pumps, coolers, and filters as unique medium and affinity for metal can cause clogging

No one is, or to my knowledge ever has, advocated the use of MTL in any Ferrari with hypoid gears.

Could you possibly cite a source for Ferrari saying not to use MTL specifically?

If you bother to inform yourself about API specifications both GL4 and GL5 are designed for use in hypoid differentials. GL4 is for low to medium offset hypoids and GL5 is for medium to high offset hypoids. But none of that is applicable to this situation as none of the 308/328, 348 or 355 models have hypoid gears.
