Anyone got pics of the Clutch slave on the 348.
Noticed a small amount of fluid the other day on the floor under the clutch housing.
Checked it for the last few days and there has been no sign of a leak.
So thought it might be wise to do some pre emptive research.

Not really sure, isn't that the take off bearing?
It's the actuall slave cylinder in the hsg that I'm after some details/pictures off.
The parts cat that I've got doesn't really show it,only the 2 pipes going into the top of the hsg but not the cylinder itself.

I've not stripped it down, this is just a learning exercise in case I need to.

The 348 does not have a traditional slave cylinder - it is combined with the release bearing. The pics above show the assembly with seals that slides over a shaft, forming the cylinder.

If it is this that is leaking you may be able to just change the seals, or you might need a new assembly (and maybe a new shaft).

I believe the seals have the following part nos. Info also credited as the pics.

    Type JF4 28 A
    Type JF4 32 A
    Type 40/50/5/8

    Steve,

There were several different types of bearings fitted, so there is no guarrantee that the seals we have would fit your bearing. I would recommend replacing the bearing with the new generation seals. Ferrari's technical bulletin number 94A recommends the following:-

    Bearing #168594
    Seal #176563
    Seal #172499
    Seal #176562
    Seal #176561

Just today my 1992 348ts lost most of the hydraulic fluids through the clutch housing screen while stepping on the clutch pedal starting from idle.

I have pm some of the F-chat members for their expertise for a fix if possible.

I have just posted "348 gear shift lever fix".

Are these failures common for the F348, or is it just mine?

You've got a 1992. The factory made a production change in 1993 that might be relevant: "08/20/93 clutch thrust bearing/slave—production improvement"

Yes the first 348 had differents bearing , the last one have been modified but only the type of bearing, the seals should be same I think. But the new model of clutch bearing can fit on old 348 I think. The old tipe is no longer produced.

Thanks for the imput guys, now in a bit of a quandry as to wether or not to strip out the clutch hsg.
Checked the car after being left for about a week,no sign of a leak.Went out yesterday, did about 40 miles and checked this morning ,no leak.
Monitoring the fluid level as well.
BTW the car is a 94 GTS if that makes any difference.

If the build date is after 8/19/93, then you've already got the factory production improvement slave bearing.

Also, here's the list of parts. The new bearing came without seals so those had to be ordered separately and then the seals must be placed in. Be sure you cross-reference this list as the part#'s may have changed. Again, this is for the new-style bearing.

Checked again this morning,no leaks and again no loss of fluid.
