Don't even bother painting it as it will chip eventually (ask me how I know). I'm going to get mine powder coated.

I went with the Carbon Fiber Key and love it. After 6 years it still looks brand new and I really like the way it looks.

Some paint stripper to remove the old paint and a polishing buffer on my drill.

No paint. Once you take off the chipped paint with the paint stripper it cleans up nicely. Just a matter of buffing it out with a drill. I prefer it over the paint. I followed the lead of another Fchatter. Do a search and I'm sure you can find it.

If you want it really shiny you can use 1000-1500 grit sandpaper first, then polish with Mothers polish on a dremel or drill.

That's fine if you like the original silver look. I wanted red so powder coating is my only option. When I painted mine I even ditched the metal key ring and used a cord to attach it to my fob but over time it still got chipped.

I repainted mine a while ago. The left one I totally stripped and repainted. The right one is the OEM one.

I'll dig up some details on how I did it, its buried in another thread.

If you go down the painted route insteaded of powedercoating. It will chip unless you glass coat it, same as the glass coats applied to our cars paint to protect from chips and scratches.

Products like Aquartz(12H hardness), 22PLE, CQuartz etc. should do the trick.
