I recently bought Rotex carbon/metallic pads for my 308qv, what a positive difference from the stock Fedoro's.

Dave,

The squeal went away after a few hundred miles. In the beginning it is bad if you lightly use the brakes. During hard braking it did not squeal as much during the first few hundred. Now with about 8k miles on her no problems. Naturally the rotors were done (turned) at the same time as brake install.

Heck, while you are at it, may as well change the brake lines too :-)

Gosh i feel like the old SNL skit... Roseanne Adan Adanna. You know, if its not one thing its another. It's ALWAYS something :-)

Enjoy the Drive,

Steven,
Has the squeal gone away? I ask, because a friend of mine is using the EBC Greenstuff, with no squeal, and he is very pleased...I am considering them and the Porterfields as well.

Jim,

My new (circa 2003) EBC squealed during the first few hundred miles. Never tired the Porterfield R4-S so can not comment there. As for stopping power, the EBC has it and i find the balance good for street driving and good for hard driving, yet unsure how they would hold up IF i did a PURE track event. That is why EBC has other formulations.

Either way, the Porterfield R4-S seems to be heralded by many as a known good though i can attest the EBC has little brake dust and seems "kinder" on the rotors (read: longer life on the rotors if you value such things). There ARE times i drive track-like and the EBC appears to hold their own.

Enjoy the Drive,

Have used Porterfield R4-S on 2 former 930's and my former 308. Will replace my stock 348 pads with Porterfield when the times comes.
Good product. Reasonable price, reduced dust and no squeal. Just my experience.

I've had no squealing from the porterfields (though I did apply anti-squeal compound to the back of the pads).

With the EBC's on my alfa, they squealed like a pig for about 1000 miles. Eventually the squealing went away.

Do the Greenstuff or the R4-S pads squeal like the stock pads?

I've got the Porterfield R4-S on my GT4, and I love them. Great brake feel.

I had tried the EBC greenstuffs a couple of years ago on my alfa, but was not impressed with the brake feel. However, I heard that they have since changed their brake compound, so they may be better now.

I (and many other Ferrari folk who occassionally track our cars) use Porterfield R4-S carbon-kevlar pads. I've been very happy with them.

using EBC "Green Stuff" Kevlar composite here on the 308. TireRack.com sells them. Good overall performance and seem to have virtually no real fade durng "normal" hard street dirivng. For track use there are other EBC brake pads.

You can fit any number of aftermarket pads. Each is tailored to a specific job. They generally fall into three types:

Oem (which on the Ferrari is a hi performance street pad

street/light track pad

Full track pads

Everyone has their favorites so let the list begin.....

For a 89 Mondial t, the Ferrari manual says to only use the recommended brand.

Do not yet need new brakes, but will one day.

Was wandering what other brands worked and what was the advantage/disadvantage of other brands of brake parts? Or do only their recommended parts fit?
